When helping your loved one choose their clothes:
1.Order: Lay out clothes in the order the person will put them on. Remind them tactfully which garment comes next.
2. Advance Prep: Make sure items are not inside out and buttons, zippers and fasteners are undone.
3. Brief Instructions: If the person gets confused, give gentle instructions in short steps, such as, “Now put your arm through the sleeve.”
4. Accept Odd Choices: Respect their decisions. If they want to wear a hat in bed, or a sweater on backwards, let them.
