The Power of Words

The Power of Words

Dr. Al Etmanski writes “Words matter. They transform both speaker and hearer. When we are angry or hurt, when we feel ignored or misunderstood, our words can amplify our deepest insecurities and perpetuate mutual misunderstanding.”

The language we use is the platform on which many of our thought patterns, perceptions and behaviours are built. Words can change us and those around us. For those individuals and families touched by physical, intellectual, mental health or other challenges, the language used by their communities, government, healthcare systems, and all people impacts the way in which these communities are supported. Today’s guest on Caregivers’ Circle, Al Etmanski, community organizer, social entrepreneur and author, discusses his work on behalf of these communities and how words can truly shift how we perceive and support the communities who need us.
